In June 2026, several members of the Europe’s Rail-funded XCROSS project travelled to Weesp and Rotterdam, in the Netherlands, for a new round of technical tests.
XCROSS is exploring how Augmented Reality (AR) and other digital technologies can support the inspection and maintenance of railway crossings. During the visit, project partners carried out a range of field activities, including the scanning of railway crossings across intercity, metro and tram networks, the installation of sensors, and the collection of valuable data to support upcoming workshops and the next stages of project development.
The visit provided an excellent opportunity to work closely with colleagues and partners from ProRail, RET, evopro systems engineering Kft., Delft University of Technology, and the University of Leeds, sharing expertise and learning from each other throughout the process. The project team also looks forward to continued collaboration with the wider XCROSS consortium, including Technische Universität Dresden, TXT Group, and AIMEN Centro Tecnológico, as the project progresses.
