On 27 and 28 November 2024, the XCross_project, funded by the Europe’s Rail Joint Undertaking, hosted an excellent workshop at the Gravenweg facilities of RET (Rotterdam Electric Tram) and at the RailCenter in Amersfoort in the Netherlands.
Participants had the unique chance to connect with experienced repairs welders and welding coordinators who work on repairing switches in the RET network and ProRail, the Dutch rail infrastructure manager. The participants had also the opportunity to witness a live demonstration of switch grinding and welding. The session was a valuable opportunity to explore the practical side of welding and grinding railway turnouts and to learn how these critical components function in real-life operations.
